Putin called on Russia to return to supersonic passenger traffic
Russian President Vladimir Putin urged to return the country to supersonic passenger traffic. This was stated by the head of state during a meeting with representatives of the public in Tatarstan.
The Russian leader proposed to think about the development of supersonic passenger aircraft.
We will remind, a year ago Vladimir Putin during a visit to the Kazan aviation plant named after S. P. Gorbunov proposed to establish on the basis of supersonic strategic bomber-missile carrier Tu-160 “White Swan” – its civilian version.
It should be noted that domestic aircraft manufacturers have extensive experience in this area. For example, in the 60’s specialists design Bureau Tupolev developed supersonic aircraft Tu-144, which became the main competitor of the Anglo-French “Concord”. In the 70’s Tupolev thought about the second generation of this aircraft. Thus there was a project long-haul supersonic airliner Tu-244, but due to the high environmental requirements of its operation was considered economically unacceptable, and the project was suspended. Nevertheless, many experts note that the developments resulting from the Tu-244 project will find their application in the latest domestic programs.
For example, since 2017 specialists of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute named after Professor N. E. Zhukovsky and other leading scientific organizations conduct research on the creation of ATP. Last month, the head of the Ministry of industry and trade Denis Manturov said that the Agency will determine the terms of reference for the demonstrator of the aircraft until 2022, and a full-fledged project will be formed until 2026.
